about

William Brown – also known as Keep That Wheel A-Turninʼ – is very much based on the version that Malcolm heard sung by Bob Davenport many years ago at The Islington Folk Club. The song was first published in 1927 in The Independent Labour Party Songbook and was written by Arthur Hagg (b.1895 d.1962), an artist and illustrator who exhibited at The Royal Academy and was imprisoned in the First World War as a conscientious objector.
